We Are Natural
by Dan Gordon

In our hectic lives, we so rarely stop to treat ourselves on the beauty, the magic and the mystery of nature that focusing on the details can bring to us. Now digital cameras are so common and small, practically everyone has a camera, and almost all of them are equipped to focus at close distance.

Having experienced the magic of studying nature up close through the lens of a camera, I encourage everyone to start pointing their cameras at nature. Don't worry about creating quality images; they are but a byproduct of the experience. The purpose is to allow us to take time and use the camera as a reason to focus on the shapes, colours, textures and the glory of nature. It allows us to appreciate the beauty of nature all over again and may even open our eyes and minds to things that we never noticed before.

My next adventure was to start capturing people. Once I got into capturing people, I started to see the beauty of people as I was now seeing the beauty of nature and realizing just how much a part of nature we truly are.

The colours, textures and lines of our bodies match perfectly with nature. We are a part of it and once we begin to study the body through  the lens of a camera we begin to realize that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and it is not just about the overall package, but the small incredibly beautiful components that make up the whole, such as an eye or the curve of an arm, the sweep of a neck or the whorls in our fingerprints.

The beauty is in our diversity!

Spring of 2009 was such a miserable season; I wanted to celebrate Spring of 2010 by creating images that celebrated the arrival of spring.

This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Sakuras planted on the west side of High Park and  I was determined to  capture the magnificence of a blossoming Sakura this spring.
